Privacy notice

Effective September 26, 2026. This notice describes the information handled by Best of North Carolina Awards, organized by Kyle Michaud.

What we collect

Nomination forms collect your name, email address, nominee name, category, location, and explanation. Contact forms collect your name, email, topic, and message. Do not submit medical, financial, identity-document, or other sensitive information in these forms.

Voting uses Sign in with ChatGPT. Our server receives the signed-in email address and may receive a profile name. Votes store a hashed account identifier, category, selected finalist, and time. Hashing is not anonymity. The sign-in provider may process authentication information under its own policies.

How we use information

We use submissions to administer the awards, verify eligibility, answer inquiries, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. Submission email addresses are not displayed on public nominee pages. Submitting a form does not subscribe you to marketing. We do not sell form submissions.

Hosting and access

The website and its submission database use OpenAI Sites and its hosting infrastructure. Authorized site administrators can review and export records. Hosting providers may maintain operational and security logs. Sites may provide aggregate traffic analytics. The application also keeps short-lived hashed network identifiers to limit form abuse. Public results show finalist names, locations, categories, and vote totals, never voter emails or contact messages.

Retention and requests

We retain award records as needed to administer the season and handle disputes. Contact messages and personal submission details are reviewed for deletion after the season; they are not automatically deleted on a fixed date. Public winner information may remain in the archive. Backups may retain records until replaced or deleted.

To request access, correction, or deletion, choose “Privacy request” on the contact form. We may need to verify your identity before acting. If the form is unavailable, please retry later.

Cookies and external services

Sign-in uses authentication-related browser storage managed by the platform. Pages may load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives the network information needed to serve them. We do not add advertising trackers. Other services linked from this site have their own privacy policies.
